Coming Full Circle

Today I went to a sheep sale on a farm tucked away in the hills of southern Poland, nearly engulfed by the Slovakian border. From within an overwhelmingly odorous barn a group of middle-aged men wearing plaid t-shirts and blue jeans tucked into rubber boots inspected and selected twenty sheep from a tangled and anxious looking herd, while Mac, a Jack Russell Tarrier, struggled to contain himself around the animals. Heifer International, an organization which I discovered a few years ago and have supported every year since by donating money to purchase animals for struggling people trying to make a living by starting a farm. The best part is that after a certain period of time, all the babies from the animals that were given to them have to be given in turn to another farmer in need, in order to continue the cycle of support, solidarity and giving. Today it came full circle for me as a small-time farmer from Poland was given sheep, purchased by Heifer International straight from my Aunt Beth's sheep farm. It is a very strange world, and it was really an experience seeing this organization that I had only known and supported from what I had seen on paper actually making a difference in someone's life right in front of my eyes and in direct relation to my present existence. While writing this blog I even randomly happened upon this art done for Heifer International that looks strangely familiar......the planet is seriously far more interconnected than we can ever imagine. So don't give up hope, because we are changing the world. Everything comes full circle at some point. Kisses from Polanka!!
